This Place Then: HOMERTON 1873

from £240.00

Homerton, Victoria Park, Hackney Wick, St John’s, Hackney South – 1873

Limited edition, archival fine art giclée print

Edition of 25 | B1 size (700 × 1000mm)

A map for comparing what was, and what is.

By carefully redrawing and aligning historic 25-inch Ordnance Survey mapping with the present-day city, this print brings two moments into the same frame. Past and present sit alongside one another, allowing changes in streets, buildings, and land use to be read directly. It offers a way to compare and contrast the city across a century — to see not just what has changed, but how those changes have shaped the place as it is today.

From a distance, the map reads as a bold, structured composition of colour and line. Up close, it becomes dense with detail — a surface that rewards slow looking and repeated viewing. It works both as a graphic object and as a tool for understanding, holding multiple layers of information in a single image that reveals more the longer you spend with it.

Printed on a subtly textured paper with an archival life of 100+ years. This is the first release in Map Editions’ large-format series.
